Join us MNSTRs for the Vancouver installment of the #graphicallyspeaking_ series on Wednesday evening April 25th starting at 7pm! This is MNSTR Gallery's 4th exhibition opening at the space sharing original artworks with the city and is part of the CAPTURE PHOTO FESTIVAL 2018 OPEN EXHIBITIONS LINE UP. #GraphicallySpeaking_ is a photography & illustration collaborative project between Photographer, OSG & a curated group of Vancouver based visual artists of different creative styles. The project aim is to showcase both the artistic style of each individual and their portraits in one image. Each artist is limited to using a monochromatic colour, and by using their own portraits as a canvas, we will get an insight into the personalities behind the artwork. The original series started in 2014 in collaboration with 12 Singapore based Artists encouraging individual artists to express their visuals freely on their canvases; now in 2018 we have 15 talented Vancouver based Artists participating in the latest series...
The ARTISTS, their portraits + Canvas: Sandeep Johal, Lauren Bortoli, Shelly Slade, Cristian Fowlie, Dena Lazarenko, Ciele Beau, Michael Mateyko, Tierney Milne, Ana Petre, Alejandro Solórzano, Aimee Young, Brother Jopa, Arinn Westendorf, Leo Recilla and Janice Liu.
This project aims to experiment with and expand on the traditional ideas of portraiture. To bridge the gaps between different creative fields through collaboration, and to encourage social interactions between creatives.
"It’s challenging to push the boundaries of portraiture, intimacy and honesty are elements that I always strive for. By engaging artists to interactively collaborate through an analogue medium on their own portraits, I hope to expand the relationship between the viewer and the subject by giving insight into their creative psyche. A PROPAGANDA ART GROUP EXHIBITION
The Design Kids Vancouver (TDK) has partnered with MNSTR Gallery to bring you "MAKE ART, NOT WAR", an exhibition centered around PROPAGANDA poster design! The exhibit is inspired by propaganda art from the last century, propaganda is most well known in the form of war posters. Although propaganda is often used to manipulate human emotions by displaying facts selectively, it can also be very effective at conveying messages. We've got 19 Vancouver based artists with different voices & different styles expressing their statement.
Come and join us for the opening reception at MNSTR Gallery on Tuesday, Dec 5th from 630-930! Bring your friends and enjoy all the works from our TDK Vancouver community! Light refreshments will be provided.

Money, Politics, Religion, Culture, our Social Climate. We live in a world saturated with data and media. Drawing on this abundance of information Beng explores the popular topics of today with a “tongue in cheek” commentary, constructing narrative snapshots which highlight the shifting popular opinions of modern western society and delivered through a unique blend of pop culture iconography and hand crafted silk screen printing.
MNSTR Gallery presents a collection of works by Australian Artist and self taught printmaker, BENG. Exhibiting in Vancouver for the first time since he arrived from Singapore in late 2015. Beng will be sharing his latest works, some Vancouver inspired pieces as well as past works. Join us at the opening reception on September 23rd from 5 - 8pm for art, wine and conversations at our Mt Pleasant space.
The exhibition will run from September 23 until October 28th, 2017 at 1818 Lorne Street. The CommentsSection Exhibit will only be open for viewing on Saturday & Sundays until the 28th of October between 2-5pm or by Appointment. (Note: We will not be open on the weekend of the 14+15th / 21st + 22nd of October)
Artist Bio | BenG
10 Years in Asia and a 15 year career in VFX have played key roles in developing and shaping artist known as BenG. With a fierce passion for technically challenging craftsmanship, and driven by the frustration of dwindling satisfaction associated with working on large client projects, Beng began exploring other avenues to fuel his creative enthusiasm. Inspired by artists like Blek Le'Rat, Banksy and Shepard Fairey, in 2010 Beng began exploring narrative in his own works, and at the same time invested countless hours learning the craft of screen printing. Armed with fresh enthusiasm, a new craft and a decade of creative and cultural experiences BenG set out to produce artworks work that comment on the society and social influences we all deal with today.

Graphically Speaking is a photography & illustration collaborative project between OSG & 12 Singapore based visual artists, the project aim is to showcase both the artistic style of each individual and their portraits in one image. Each artist is limited to using a monochromatic colour, and by using their own portraits as a canvas, we will get an insight into the personalities behind the artwork.
In the span of a year in 2015 through meet ups and social media, I have come to know all of the artists involved in the project. I have approached a number of artists whose work I admired, most of them warmed to the idea of getting their portraits taken while some were not so comfortable with the idea and was hesitant to participate. The selection was carefully curated through the artist introductions and discovered through online portfolios. After a quick photo shoot, each artist was then presented with an A0 print portrait which best represented their personality, from there they were asked to illustrate in the space surrounding them using their signature styles, culminating in a mixed media representation of the artists and their own individual creative styles.

"As a photographer, documentary photography has always been fascinating to me. For this project, the opportunity to share the ordinarily reclusive sides of artists and their creative styles really drew me to pursue the project. With a background of illustration myself, the mix of creative expressions felt like a natural combination. I thoroughly enjoy the process of interacting with other creatives, appreciating and supporting one another’s work.

Join us MNSTRs for an evening of art and conversations at our creative space featuring the works of our Artist in Residence, Beng. This year we are participating in ROVE, the Mount Pleasant Art Walk on May 25th from 6 - 10pm. Since 2013 these free art walks have been happening over one night twice a year in the Mount Pleasant neighbourhood of Vancouver. ROVE features a hand picked selection of galleries, artist studios and curated spaces for participants to explore. You can cover the whole route in one night and stop for drinks and food along the way!
It's the perfect way for artists and lovers of art to engage with and support the vibrant Mount Pleasant art scene. Around 300+ enthusiastic rovers participate in this unique event and it’s a great opportunity for artists and galleries to build relationships with people who care about art!
All you need to do to ROVE is….
STEP 1: Come to Mount Pleasant on Friday, May 25th from 6pm to 10pm.
STEP 2: Get your map.
STEP 3: Follow the route to check out galleries, studios and creative spaces.
